President of the Supreme Political Council Mehdi Mashat on Tuesday met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen Martin Griffith and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, President Al-Mashat affirmed that Yemen adheres to comprehensive peace through political solutions to end the suffering of the Yemeni people and restore stability to Yemen and the region.

Mr. Al-Mashat added that Yemen has presented many practical steps that confirm its seriousness to reach peaceful solutions, starting with the implementation of more than 90 percent of the commitments of the Stockholm Agreement on Hodeidah and the other party did not take any step in the agreement.

President Al-Mashat said ” we have offered many initiatives, the latest of which was to stop targeting Saudi territory in exchange for a halt to targeting Yemeni territory and lifting the siege, and to release hundreds of prisoners unilaterally, while the aggression is still reluctant to provide any practical steps that confirm its desire for peace. ”

“When we introduced these initiatives, we wanted to raise the voice of peace. If the coalition’s countries do not listen to it, we have painful blows that will make them listen to it,” President Al-Mashat said.

The President called on the United Nations to do its part to open the airport as a humanitarian issue.

President Al-Mashat reiterated that Yemen will continue to support the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to lead to his success and meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

For his part, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen praised the initiative of President Al-Mashat and the release of hundreds of prisoners, considering it a strong push towards peace.

The UN envoy stressed that he will continue his moves to exploit the conditions conducive to achieving comprehensive peace in Yemen.
